2012 to 2015

When it comes to planning settlements and buildings, there are lots of challenges to meet such as demographic change, urban sprawl and inadequate building structures. The fragmentation of responsibilities and a lack of tools for cooperation and integration of regional resources make it even harder to solve the emerging problems.

AlpBC tries to solve this dilemma and wants to develop and implement new inter-municipal and inter-department planning concepts. To create a holistic planning strategy there will also be a strong focus on participation, knowledge transfer and regional closed loop economies.

The new thing about this approach is that all stakeholders are addressed equally by the developed tools and methodologies, trying to break up traditional scopes of responsibility. The centre of attraction is the topic “buildings and settlements” itself with all the relevant aspects, independently from any administrative borders.

The involved regions will not only get the newly developed strategies, which are also transferable to other regions, but also practical tools to implement them. Thus the regional identity can be preserved and the spatial development follows a sustainable demand oriented path.
